NMS Labs offers testing for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID).  DUID impairment can be due to prescription or illegal drugs and inhalants.  Both alcohol and drug impairment are responsible for thousands of tragic traffic accidents each year.

DUID laws vary from state to state, but generally fall into
1 of 3 categories:

  • Effect-Based DUID laws - taking a field sobriety test, observations from the police officer, and a positive result from a bodily fluid test will all usually be required to be convicted. Generally, a positive drug test alone will not suffice; the driver must be visibly impaired. 
  • Per Se DUID laws - illegal to drive with any measurable amount of an illegal substance, whether or not the driver is actually impaired (similar to the national law which declares it illegal to drive with a blood alcohol level (BAC) of .08% or higher).
  • Zero Tolerance DUID laws - any detectable amount of drug in a suspect's bloodstream is an offense.
