Collect 24-hour urine specimen in a glass or plastic bottle containing 10 mL concentrated hydrochloric acid. Record the volume in liters.
Ascorbic acid at very high concentration (exceeding 16 mcmol/mL urine) can interfere. It is recommended that patients refrain from taking excessive amounts of vitamin C or vitamin C rich food for at least 48 hours prior to collection.
